Overview

East Penn is currently seeking a Process Engineer who will be responsible for the following:

Conducting projects within R&D to support the Metals Division with focus on increasing productivity and efficiencies, decreasing costs, and improving EH&S performance.  Evaluating existing processes, their controls, and the data and information necessary for Supervisor/operator adjustment and decision making to maintain improvements.  Interfacing with the plant management, supervisors, R&D and hourly employees to conduct the projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the Metal Division Processes to gain improvements in process outputs, specification compliance, waste reduction and cycle times
  • Assist with data collection and review to improve predictability of processes and improve information presented to operators
  • Understand health, safety and environmental factors to minimize exposure to toxins and hazards
  • Conduct research to understand the chemical, physical, and metallurgical principles underlying smelting processes (battery breaking, sulfuric acid & polypropylene reclamation, furnace & refining operations) and oxide manufacturing process
  • Gain understanding of sampling methodology and analytical analysis both in the plant and in the laboratory
  • Shadow plant management to gain a better understanding of operations
  • Assist with the development of new processes and technologies to support the transition of projects from R&D into the Metals Division – to include preparing technical reports, research papers, etc. and creating new or improved work instructions
  • Optimize the use of raw materials, fluxes, and energy inputs to reduce costs and environmental impact including management of by-products & waste streams
  • Lead and/or support projects within the Metals Division

 

Qualifications

Experience & Qualifications

 

5+ years of metallurgical experience

Significant understanding of metallurgical processes

Good attendance record

 

Education/Certification

 

4-year degree (Chemistry or Metallurgy related fields) and related experience

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project)

  • Literate (Ability to read scientific documents, project reports, specifications)
  • Fundamental understanding of metallurgy
